Dateline: aughts & teens. The market research industry is a pseudo-science which I'll tackle separately here someday in thrilling detail. MR is filled with washouts from other legit industries who looked around & realized they could make a decent living simply being punctual & polite. There are also legit smart folks in MR, I met a handful. They & I were smart enough to slurp up the gravy train. Which I did, for 20 years. Let's focus. Ann Arbor, MI. Yes that's a bandana on my head. -- ...guy leans out of his pickup window & hisses 'Jewboy' & roars off...welcome to day 1 in Lake Nebagamon, WI... This is no ordinary story of being fired. In hindsight the event leading up to it were a moral dilemma that I predict you have experienced in your own life. So: senior year of college my friend told me a few years prior he worked at this camp, which still exists as a boys camp in N. WI, as a 'tripper' meaning on the 'trip staff.' These were camp counselors separate from the day to day, living in the cabin counselors. Trippers took the boys out on camping, hiking & biking trips, generally 5 days at a time. Dateline: 2000. Do you have a savant friend? Someone off the charts smart but also limited or suffering in social skills? A good example is Bobby Fisher, the chess champion. Not just talented but historically superior, even at a young age. However, he started going off the rails in his 20s. After winning the world title in 1972, basically disappeared. Re-appeared years later, clearly a paranoid schizophrenic. Also, he hosted a radio show from I Philippines where he ranted against everyone (especially Jews, of which he was one). Anyhoots. I used to have a savant friend, Chris. He excelled at basically everything difficult. School, chess, board games, anything involving strategy.
