Dateline:1996. So I did a couple years in the employee survey & assessments divisions as an office drone at NCS, they later changed their name to Pearson. Long nasty commute across metro Minneapolis, esp. in the winter. Wasn't doing much of anything there but make friends in and out of work with an intense, successful sales guy, and borderline enemies with a high strung drama rager sales rep named Caroline. One day, the latter called in sick with some drama, same day she was to fly to San Francisco and help Dr. David Campbell, a well-known psychologist (i.e., Strong-Campbell interest inventory) host a seminar, of which NCS was a publisher of his various assessments. So they sent me out there in her stead, the flight was a few hours away. Hurried home, back across the city, packed a satchel, drove all the way back across the city to airport, flew out to SF for a couple days. I sat in back of room whilst David explained his theories. Dateline: 2015-16. There's an African store in downtown Winston-Salem, North Carolina called Body and Soul . The store was a few blocks from the groovy loft I lived in for most of my 18 months. I visited there many times, certainly weekly, for many months. Initially to discuss them displaying my big Shona art sculpture by Robert Kwechete as I saw they had small Shona art pieces in the window. Here's mine, Rhino & Calf, 2ft high & 120lbs: Then to buy bar soap. Then one day to stare up close at the intricate detail in a 4ft Miles Davis painting & a few other original paintings in this jazz series. Next to the painting, in a separate room with view of the register, was a dapper suited elderly gent. He started talking about Miles Davis. How he lived in NYC in the 50s & 60s and saw him play often, in various clubs. This was mind-blowing to me. At the time I was listening to Miles & the major jazz guys often, but not like I am now (part of my daily diet). ...

Dateline: 2015-16. The screams from the next door neighbor were so bad the 2nd time that I called 911. A month earlier the weird moaning & yelling around midnight was, through the walls, audible in my place, a new dt loft I properly signed lease for. I didn't think much of it then other than it was weird as hell. A few days later 2 police came to his door, I popped my head into the hallway as they were banging on his door for several minutes. Pounding on it actually. His workplace had called the police for a welfare check as he no-showed at work for 3 days. No calls, nothing. He finally answered the door and talked to the gendarme. An ambulance came and actually rolled him away on a stretcher. An officer knocked on my door and gave me the skinny. He was 'self-medicating' due to major dental work (booze & pills) .
