Dateline: July 10, 2013. That summer, Bob Dylan had a special set of openers for his Never Ending Tour. These dates were titled the Americanarama Festival of Music . I saw the show in St. Paul, MN, at the minor league baseball ballpark. The stage was around home plate, ergo the entire field filled up with people, a lot of people. I went with my live music buddy Jim and his buddy Mike who I'd not met before (or since). With 4 acts that's a very long show, ergo we got there the tail end of My Morning Jacket. I knew of them but that's it. Quickly regretted missing the bulk of their gig as they were jammy groovy fun. The opener was guitar god Richard Thompson, one of my faves, saw him years earlier solo (w/Chris Smither opening!) also a full electric band at First Avenue (Neil Young played that night across the street in basketball arena, he was making fun). Does anyone really need 5 kids?

For the last several years, when I see little kids being pushed in strollers or whatnot, I always, without fail, think about their life 50 years from now. Or more to the point, the state of the planet 50 years from now. Also, their price of college tuition, and the utility of a college degree for that matter. Moving out west from the midwest a few years back I realized I landed in Mormonville. Especially when I go to a big box store, I see the Mormon mom (always mom, never pop) shepherding her brood through the aisles. Always, without fail, multiple kids. How do I know they're Mormon? Ever been to Europe? You can spot the Americans a block away. Same thing. Someone here told me the reason Mormons can't stop breeding is because they need 'shells' to merge with the floating vapor Mormon souls whizzing around. Hey, why not. Dateline:1996. So I did a couple years in the employee survey & assessments divisions as an office drone at NCS, they later changed their name to Pearson. Long nasty commute across metro Minneapolis, esp. in the winter. Wasn't doing much of anything there but make friends in and out of work with an intense, successful sales guy, and borderline enemies with a high strung drama rager sales rep named Caroline. One day, the latter called in sick with some drama, same day she was to fly to San Francisco and help Dr. David Campbell, a well-known psychologist (i.e., Strong-Campbell interest inventory) host a seminar, of which NCS was a publisher of his various assessments. So they sent me out there in her stead, the flight was a few hours away.
